What fueled your creativity for the Hindi collection?
"Definitely a strong, home-brewed ginger ale and a bowl of gud chana! They became my little companions while working on the illustrations. I love having something refreshing and something crunchy to snack on while I draw, especially during those long, quiet hours of getting lost in the details."
How did you choose the color palette?
"I wanted the colours and visual style to feel rooted in Hindi culture, while still being playful and inviting for children. I drew inspiration from the colours, patterns and little details we grow up seeing around us, and tried to bring elements like rangoli, diyas, gullaks and everyday Indian objects into the scenes. My hope was that the illustrations would help children feel a little closer to their roots while discovering the poems."
Which song was the most fun to illustrate?
"Gudiya Rani (Doll Queen) was definitely my favourite to illustrate. I had so much fun creating a little world around the song rather than just illustrating the lyrics. I loved imagining the doll’s space and filling it with all these tiny details, objects and little moments that a child could discover. From the toys and books to the little things around the room, every corner became part of the story. It was one of those illustrations where I kept adding small elements simply because I was having so much fun building this tiny world."
