Let's play Memory in Spanish, French, or Italian!
After at least 4 years of setting a New Year's resolution to learn French with my kids and failing miserably, I'm trying to take a new approach this year. Instead of a big ambitious goal, I'm trying to find ways of incorporating just a few minutes or even a single word of French into our everyday routine. To keep it light and easy to remember, I'm loosely trying to stick to the schedule/daily suggestions below, and today I wanted to share something that I'm going to try with my kiddos for this week's Fun Friday!
Music Mondays: Listen to a song in the language you're learning
Tongue Twister Tuesday: Practice saying a tongue twister in your language of choice
Word of the Day Wednesday: An easy one for the middle of the week - just look up any word you need to use that day!
Tech Thursday: Play a game on a language learning app with your kids
Fun Friday: Do a fun activity in the new language (like a drawing video or a game)
Showtime Saturday: Watch a kids' show or movie you're already familiar with but in a new language
Storytime Sunday: Listen to a story you're already familiar with but in a new language
Playing Memory for Language Learning
My kids love playing Memory, and it's fun to play with them because it's a game they can easily beat me at (which may not be a good sign for me)... So I put together a Memory game featuring the animal names in different languages. The idea is to play just like any other game of memory but to try to read the name of the animal when we flip the card over. I'm going to test out the French version with my kids this weekend, but to be honest, some of these animal names I still need to learn in Spanish too!
